The Crucifixion Scene Statue — St. Joseph Church, Geneva

At the Foot of the Cross, St. Joseph's Church, Geneva, NE

The statue of the three persons at the foot of the Cross was restored in 2018 with a generous donation from a local parishioner.

The statue of the three in sorrow at the foot of the cross are life-size and reflect the Gospel of John (19:26-27): The Blessed Virgin Mary painted with a gold-edged blue tunic and white scarf; Mary Magdalene in the middle, and John, the disciple whom Jesus loved on the right. In this Gospel passage, Jesus says to His Mother, “Woman, behold your son” and to John, “Behold, your mother” identifying the Blessed Mother, as the mother of all the faithful remaining on earth. These three statues, as well as the body of Jesus, and most other statues and stained-glass windows in the church were part of the original church structure which housed the parish for nearly one-hundred years.
