The long-recited and beloved prayers, The Hail Mary and The Magnificat, have their origin in St. Luke’s Gospel narrating the story of The Visitation: Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth (Lk 1:39-56).

Ave Mary (Hail Mary)
Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
(Lk 1:42-45)
