Interesting Fact(s) About the Church
The structure of the church was once a military chapel originally located at Camp Beale, a U.S. Army training camp established in 1942 during World War II in Yuba County, which was closed and consolidated with Beale Air Force Base in 1947. During this consolidation, some of the ten military chapels on the base were sold and relocated. The building for Our Lady of Grace Church was purchased by the Diocese of Sacramento in 1947 or 1948 from the War Assets Administration (WAA) and became the home of the Parish of Our Lady of Grace in 1949. The church reportedly was bought for one dollar, then taken apart and transported in pieces to the current location. The land on which the church and other parish structures was also purchased for one dollar from the a parish family. Bishop Robert Strong dedicated the church in October 1948.
