Overview
Sacred Heart Church is a historic church located in the heart of Bangalore near the corner of Richmond Road and Mother Teresa Road. The 125-year-old twin-spired building is an example of French Gothic architecture which can be seen outside with the twin spires, and inside with the pointed arch ceiling and supporting rib vaults and columns. The interior is light and colorful with many beautiful statues and shrines. The large parish supports several Masses each day, as well as on Sundays.

Interesting Fact(s) About the Church
> Like St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, this Church also has some French roots in its Indian history.
A bungalow was directed to be built in the 1880’s on Victoria Road, next to the Priest’s Cemetery, by the Most Reverend August Chevalier of the Fathers of the Paris Foreign Mission Society (Missions Etrangeres de Paris, the “MEP”) – this was the first “church” of the Sacred Heart. The foundation stone for the current church was laid in 1893 by the Rev. Msgr. Kleiner of the MEP.

> St. Mother Teresa visited the church in 1995 and the street along the property was renamed as “Mother Teresa Road”.
